Thanks, kathy s., I'm with you! The idiot who wrote that piece of poo can bite me! That album ROCKS, and has sold really well, and has MANY fans! "Contact" is an artistic triumph - inspiring, moving, sensual, POWERFUL! You-all who wrote that
stinky seudo-review are
not fit to clean the shoes of Robbie's genius
self!

LeisureSuit.net SPECIAL PRIZE FOR MOST EMBARRASSING ALBUM OF THE YEAR

Robbie Robertson "Contact From The Underworld of Redboy"
Neither Leonard Cohen nor Lou Reed released new music this year, so this is the kitsch klassic for ‘98, frequently spun at the LS.n exec offices. Although it doesn’t have lyrics like "She was like a young Georgia O’Keefe from another time" like Robertson’s Storyville, it does feature a rap with convicted felon and Hollywood cause celebre Leonard Peltier. Robertson has made interesting Native American-influenced music before with his Red Road Ensemble, but this time he has replaced the interesting rhythms with cheesy synthetics, while retaining the purple high-school poetry he and John Trudell churn out like so many literary cigar store Indian chiefs. It’s unfathomable that the leader of the roots rock movement that was The Band could release such overproduced poppycock. If he could hear it, Richard Manuel would hang himself again.

Concerning the "cheezy synthetics", a great dissonance is created between said keyboard tracks and the authentic Native tracks (not to mention Mr. Robertson's soulfully feel-played guitar riffs). These only accentuate the ethnicity factor by begging the question of why they are there. I think it's pure magic. I personally loved this album. "Unbound" alone is enough to whisk you away into another world. I can only assume that, with the wealth of experience that Mr. Robertson commands, these synthetic pieces were intented to stand out from the rest of the musical content for artistic reasons. I don't understand how one can objectively judge an artistic decision, being that it is indeed a personal intangible, like taste.

I realize you are not educated in the history of Native people, so i forgive you for your ignorance. let me just say: it is people such as yourself that music such as Robbie Robertson's will prevail. when you listen to the music of my people open not only your ears, but your mind and spirit as well. or maybe you are afraid of what you will see?

Your reviewer is WAY off. "Contact" is as bnlliant (mostly) as anything Robbie did with the band, and much deeper spiritually.

What the hell are you talking about? 'Contact from the Underworld of Redboy' is a good album with some great songs on it.

What is the sound of one ball hanging? At least Lou is all buffed up and shit. Leonard Cohen ( another Canadian) is sitting in a monastery participating in marathon one-handed push up contests with other pasty "Buddhists". Glad you like los Gourds, they are ostracized here in Austin for playing country while being overtly gay. They are my good friends though, and I love their hairy asses.
